Hi Friends!
My name is Melody.
I have been practicing yoga on and off (mostly on now) for about 12 years and I graduated with my 200hr RYT certification in 2015 from Boulevard Yoga in Kansas City MO.
I took my very first class in high school through my dance studio. I suckered my mom and sister into coming with me and had such a good time. (Though I have to admit, I just thought it was fun to show off how flexible I was). Then in college, yoga was required my senior year for my major (Theatre) and that’s where I really fell in love with meditation and the mind/body connection yoga offers. After I graduated, my practice fluctuated and it took me a couple of years to find a studio I connected with. I always had the best of intentions of maintaining a home practice, but honestly, I’m just better in a class room. However, when I found Boulevard, I knew I was home. I signed up for their training program the very next year.
As a lifetime learner, I absolutely love deepening my knowledge and understanding of history, philosophy, the human body and anatomy, and advance modalities. So after completing my 200 hour in 2015, I went on to complete my Barre Above Certification in 2017, Children’s Yoga Certification through Yogees Yoga 4 Kids in Dallas TX in 2019, my 300hr RYT through My Vinyasa Practice in Austin TX in 2020, and my Yoga Sculpt Certification through The Studio BE in Houston TX in 2021.
Before moving to Houston and having my first child, I lived and worked in South East Texas and taught regular weekly classes at Exygon Health and Fitness and SSAH FitLab. I also offered a Yoga for Athletes program with the Soft Ball and Basket Ball teams at Lamar State College, Restore & Recoop which is designed for weight lifters to work towards recovery and injury prevention and is offered at multiple Cross Fit Gyms in South-East Texas, and private lessons and special events in partnership with other businesses and locations throughout Southeast Texas. Some of my very favorite recurring community events are Brew Yoga at the Neches Brewing Company and Beach Yoga at Sea Rim State Park.
Now firmly settled in Houston TX with my husband, toddler, and cat; I am currently a Sculpt, Flow, and Kid’s teacher at The Studio BE as well as their Assistant Manager/ Business Development Manager/ Event Coordinator. I am loving getting to be involved in this amazing Houston Heights Community and offering my skills to make sure everyone feels welcome and at home in our studio.
On top of all that, I am the founder of Twisted Tykes Family Yoga- a yoga and creative movement program that offers community events throughout the area to help teach those big and small the joys of a yoga and mindfulness practice.
The past couple of years have brought so many big changes and so much growth in my MBYoga offerings.
I’ve now offered 3 online and in person yoga challenges; 30 to 30 , Yoga is for Lovers , and MamaFlow2020
I spent 2 years teaching at the ELYSIA Yoga Convention in Amorgos, Greece at the beautiful Aegialis Hotel and Spa and at the the Heartland Yoga Festival in Kansas City MO. I’ve created and produced 2 Deepen The Heart Texas Based Women’s Wellness Retreats in 2018 & 2019 and lead my first international retreat, Beachside Bliss in Chacala Mexico in 2021.
In 2019 I focused on creating partnered workshops and events with local businesses and yoga studios including a New Year Vision Board Workshop, Vino & Vinyasa – Yoga and Wine Tasting, Grow and Flow Yoga and Succulent Planting, and there are many more to come throughout the year! I also completed my RCYT training through Yogees Yoga 4 Kids then I rounded out the year by launching my YouTube Channel – Melody Butler Yoga : Yoga to Go!
When I’m not teaching yoga, I am most likely chasing my one year old around the yard, snuggling with my kitten, reading, gardening, or watching terrible reality TV. I desperately love margaritas, theatre, the beach, my garden, and spending all of my time either in airplanes or by the ocean – preferably with a good book.
In my classes, I offer a mindful Vinyasa and Hatha practices that focus on meditation and movement. I love being able to use yoga to create community and connection where ever I am.
I honestly love everything about my work and hope I get to see you in one or (or all) of my classes soon!
