MEET YOUR INSTRUCTORS / RETREAT LEADERS

DARCY HENRY
Hello Yogis!
My name is Darcy. Would you believe that I fell into my yoga practice totally by accident.? I was training for my first half marathon and an MS150 at the same time. I discovered yoga and used it to supplement my training. After I competed the half marathon and did several MS150’s, I hung up the running shoes, sold my bike and continued to practice yoga because I fell in love with asana. Its a form of movement that truly resonates with me.
In 2012, I was diagnosed with a chronic disease. The doctors prescribed me very expensive medication that had a laundry list of side effects. Since ulcerative colitis is stress induced, I experimented; could I manage all my stress with yoga and mediation?
Sure enough through consistent practice and dedication to meditation, little by little I was able to eliminate the medication form my routine. To this day, I am still medication free! It was then that I realized it was my responsibility to share yoga and mediation with others.
In 2014, I began teacher training and by 2015, I was teaching yoga. In 2019 I left my corporate job to peruse a full time career in yoga. In 2020 I finished 300 hour training with Brayn Kest. I love being the teacher but I love being the student even more. I am certified in Rocket, Sculpt, Restorative, Forrest and of course Power.
You can find me leading classes at The Woodlands Yoga Studio and YogaOne Kingwood. My favorite place to teach is on retreat! In 2021, my inspirational friend, Melody and I founded The Getaway Yogis . We lead retreats all over the world and I truly believe this is exactly where I am supposed to be.
When I am not teaching yoga, I am doing CrossFit, traveling with my family and friends and hiking all the trails I can find in Colorado.
It has been my honor to teach yoga at corporate events, festivals, wellness fairs and even yoga in the park.
Follow me @darcyloveslife on instagram and join me on a retest with The Getaway Yogis!
MELODY BUTLER
My name is Melody, and I’m so glad you’re here to share your practice and presence with me! I’ve been practicing yoga for over 16 years, and each stage of this journey has brought new layers of meaning and connection into my life.
I first discovered yoga back in high school through my dance studio and then fell in love with the mind-body connection and meditative aspects of yoga while studying Theatre in college. After college, I moved around and eventually found my yoga home in Kansas City Missouri, which inspired me to dive deeper. I completed my 200-hour certification in 2015 and have continued my education with certifications in Barre, Children’s Yoga, Yoga Sculpt, Prenatal Yoga, and Yoga Nidra among others. As well as completing my 300-Hour Certification in 2021 – officially making me a 500HR ERYT YACP.
I’m also the founder of Twisted Tykes Family Yoga, bringing yoga and mindfulness to communities big and small since 2016 and offering Children’s Yoga Classes and Camps in SouthEast Texas.
One of the most glamorous parts of my job is co-founding and leading The Get Away Yogis, a yoga retreat company with a mission to help you take your practice wherever you roam. Over the past five years, we’ve led retreats in beautiful locations like Greece, Mexico, Costa Rica, and our home state ofTexas, and I can’t wait to explore more places with you in all the years to come.
Over the last few years, one of the most fulfilling expansions in my work has been stepping into the role of teacher trainer. I’ve loved getting to stretch my skill set and share this practice in new ways—mentoring future yoga teachers through True Love Yoga’s 200HR YTT in Kansas City, and creating and leading specialized trainings in Perinatal and Children’s Yoga that have been offered in person and virtually. I also offer Continuing Education courses for yoga teachers on topics like yoga business development, the chakra system, the myofascial system, and more. It’s been such a joy to support fellow teachers in deepening their knowledge and stepping into their unique voice and power.
You can also connect with me virtually through the Well Read Yogi Virtual Book Club, where we dive into inspiring reads and practices together every month, and on my YouTube channel – Melody Butler Yoga: Yoga to Go!
When I’m not teaching or leading retreats, you’ll probably find me chasing my 5-year-old around the yard and preparing for baby #2 to arrive this summer, snuggling with my old lady cat on the couch because she can’t jump onto the bed anymore, reading, gardening, or indulging in some guilty-pleasure reality TV. I have a soft spot for spicy red wines in the winter and G&Ts in the summer, live theater, the beach, and spending time either in airplanes or by the ocean – ideally with a great book.
In my yoga classes, I offer mindful Vinyasa and Hatha practices that center on meditation and movement, creating space for community and connection.
